Best time of year to fish Fort Myers for Snook Fishing is late April through July. Capt. Josh normally catches bait before pick up times. However, Capt. Josh encourages guests to join him to catch bait to get the full fishing experience. Start times are subject to change based on weather, tides, and other variables. Fishing time begins when the boat leaves the dock and ends when it returns. Below are the varieties of charters offered by Caloosahatchee Cowboy Charters.
FISHING FOR SNOOKS, REDS, & MORE IN FORT MYERS?
Snook are the pride and joy of the Caloosahatchee and Capt. Josh's second favorite fish of all time. Snook offer one amazing drag screaming battle on light tackle, especially if you manage to get that 20 pounder to take a taste of your line. Snook are super mean and aggressive. They will do everything in their power to break you off on anything they can get into, especially dock pilings and mangrove roots. Nothing gets Capt. Josh more excited than to see a 40 inch snook cruising down a mangrove shoreline in the Caloosahatchee and flipping a giant pilchard in front of her nose.
The Caloosahatchee River has fantastic spring, fall and winter snook action! April, May, June and July are my personal favorite snook months. Snook come out of their upriver winter homes in the spring and slide out the river making a few pit stops along way. They then reach their summer beach vacation destinations to spawn. After spawning and hungry they will once again return up the river to their winter lairs.
Snook are very special to Capt. Josh and very hard to catch these days due a freeze Fort Myers endured 5 years ago. The freeze decimated the snook population. Snook are not in abundance like they used to be. It is a honor and distinct privilege if you are able to bring a quality snook boat side for a picture. Capt. Josh will not kill a snook for any reason. He will take his guests to fish for them all they want but we will not kill them. Please understand his love, respect and passion for the snook. It is all about preservation for our future generations to enjoy.
Red fish are in abundance pretty much are year long. August, September and October are the best months for reds, especially September. There are massive schools all over the place during September. It is not uncommon to catch 20-50 reds in a day during this time of year.
Speckled Sea trout are great for the kids and beginners! They provide a lot of action and are tons of fun for them to reel in. Trout can usually be caught all year long with lures and popping corks and a shrimp. Early spring is the best time of year for a trout bite.
